Have you ever heard the phrase "Don't love anything that can't love you back"? That would describe most people's cows except for mine. My cows love me I could never sell them. Just kidding but cows have been on this ranch for over 100 years. I hope they are here for another 100. I learned over the years that ranching is as hard as you make it. I've learned to push the easy button and not push production so much as profitability. Big weaning weights might earn you bragging rights at the coffee shop but net profit is all that matters. Facilities, labor, time, equipment, feed, death loss etc. all take away from the bottom line.

I don't blame anyone for jumping ship, it would damn sure be easier but cows are part of my identity. I would get bored if I didn't have something to get me out of the house during the winter. To each their own but I think diversity is what built American agriculture, it's a shame we are losing it.
