On a side note, if you were to put red fuel in your diesel lawn mower, the state could get after you for failure to pay sales tax since lawn maintenance is not considered agricultural use since it does not contribute to the direct production of an agricultural product. The IRS would not bother, unless the lawn mower is operated on the road.
It is not an agricultural exemption. It is an 'off road' exemption. Kidna irritates me when fuel suppliers display "farm fuel" price on the sign as if we are getting some kind of special treatment.
You certainly could use red fuel in a lawnmower.
If it is not a vehicle used on the highway, you can use red fuel. Backhoes, drilling rigs, fuel oil heaters, generators, etc.
