It seems that this discussion is more based on money than total compensation. How a person is treated, do they get housing, pickup, fuel, etc has to weight in to the picture.
There are good employees out there who will work hard for the total package. Money is just part of it. I see farmers who are good business managers, good farmers, good operators, but are bad supervisors. They just don't know how to motivate and deal with employees. How a person is treated goes a long way toward an employees success.
