Cedar Rapids, Iowa | Vista is a memory hog. It needs at least 1 GB of RAM to function, and 2GB to get to where it should be. If you're short on memory, you will see speed problems.
HP (along with Dell and others) are terrible about loading tons of crap software onto computers. The best thing to do immediately after buying a computer is to format the drive and reload windows. It is more difficult to do now that you have data on it, but it is still going to be the best way to make your machine run faster. Be sure to back up any important data first.
