Wildly variable, I will admit. But for a prime corn country I-Stater, let's say it refers to somebody who used high corn prices to get healed up and build themselves a nice fort, instead of trading off 32 low-hour tractors for more new paint, buying boats, lake homes, Harleys, pulling tractors, race cars, or new farms with the assumption that $1200/acre revenue was a slam dunk.
I see your point about negotiating halfway there- however, if corn is $2something 12 months from now, it may be the landowners with broken rental agreements who are coming looking for anybody who will offer them something, anything, for the upcoming cropping season. And if things get that bad in farm country, I hope you come to my auction and visit me at my new job as a strip club DJ. |
