Like pknoeber said, genetics play a large role in it as well. Way more money has been put into corn genetics than either wheat or sorghum so corn yields have gone up dramatically with respect to the other two. Couple that with no-till water use efficiency and corn is here to stay in this area unless the price of wheat goes up and the price of corn goes down.
