Subject: RE: Trying to Understand the thinking behind this

Last I checked, not much 2015 corn has been planted, let alone harvested and sold.  Pretty early to say that profitability won't be possible yet in this marketing year, isn't it?   Kind of the flip side of saying "I'm selling at a guaranteed profit" long before you know what your actual yield and cost/bushel is.

What happens if you plead poverty, get rents negotiated lower, and your area has a reasonably good crop while the price of corn rallies back north of $5?  How's the next rent negotiation going to work out for you?

Now, if 12 months from now corn is $3, $2-something in the fringe basis areas, seed & fertilizer cos. still think they don't have to budge- that is when my comments above lose validity and rental rates will really take a haircut.   Maybe some high-flyers are in trouble now, but people who have been living within their means for the most part just haven't bled that much yet.
