Ne Iowa | I have to wonder where this coop evolution ends up. Our local coop is now just a shell of what it once was. They made special deals for big operators who’ve since completely bypassed the coop. Grain sales are all direct as well as chemical and fertilizer purchases. It would seem to me like the Coop’s business is from smaller and smaller operations which will eventually be mostly gone. They can’t just keep going along this trajectory. I would think Coop’s would be investing in ethanol production or processing bean meal or something or they’ll forever be just a middleman. | |
