Kansas | Coop merger and increasing efficiency don't belong in the same sentence. Management loves merger because their pay explodes higher every time membership gives the ok. With a large sprawling organization, overhead costs balloon, accountability disappears, and a sense of entitlement reigns. Board of directors only answer is to spend more, borrow more, and never question the only employee they have to manage (the CEO). Bloated coops haven't figured out the stockholder IS the customer, have little oversight of middle management leading to poor decisions day to day and a lack of training for the boots on the ground. You will never hear them talk about being the best they can be and going out and competing. If you don't believe me, go out and get involved in the system, it's plain as day.
