Wonder what the true feeling of those in production agriculture is regarding the subsidies? The major state organizations and commodity organizations seem like they are completely for it(edit: completely for the continuation of the current subsidization rate, not the cuts). It seems like there is a somewhat significant portion of actual farmers that would like to see the subsidy removed completely. As one moves away from the more stable producing areas, even the lower insurance levels represent a significant outlay.

Here is a article that contains a couple of good comparison charts regarding how expensive crop insurance would become if all things remained the same other than the subsidized payment.

A large chunk of ground in higher variable areas is already insured at the sub 80% level just due to the fact that premiums are so high. In the article, $70 in premium for $450 guarantee would cause this type of ground to become non-insured. Also it is hard to see any efficiency gains that would come close to making the premium affordable again.
