E.Central MN | I think the rapid increase in farm size would have happened anyway due to advances in machinery size. Yes the insurance companies made money and the banks were able to loan money at less risk. But without crop insurance subsidies, who do you think would be most likely to get cheaper crop insurance rates on the open market and lower loan rates, small farmers or big farms?
The real question is will these cuts materially affect the Trump voter base in the next election? I doubt it and I think he knows it, its like the comment that basically said he could shoot somebody and none of his people would turn against him.
One good thing could come from this, it was the only safety net that the Farm Program provided. Without this there isn't any reason to sign up.
