Eastern Oregon
It may be a case of salesmanship, stretching a point to win a customer's appreciation?

Another intriguing point you raise: GMO was alternative to other herbicides and pesticides. I have read over and over that those chemicals used have increased after GMO became mainstream. This is counter to my observations. I suspect there's more to that story.

In the case for hay, it's not necessary and rarely is sprayed once the stand is cleaned up. And healthy strong plants are not susceptible to infestation, so pesticides are foregone. Just this specific example, chemicals use is far less (and less dangerous) due to GMO.
