Central Iowa
Those things are all well and good until you get into a long stretch of rainy weather (4 out of 5 years here in central Iowa) in combination with a lot of potholes and lack of tile, then, being "on time" is impossible. I never found a rotary hoe to be very effective and weeding crews are obscenely expensive. That was my experience in 5 years of renting an organic farm. I do agree ridge till is the best system for organic if you really insist on being organic.

This farm would have been way ahead to drop certification and farmed conventional ridge till with a combination herbicide and cultivation. The weeds would be history, yields would double and soil would be saved.
