Subject: Re: Carter grain embargo

Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska
Yes, Soviets invaded Afghanistan and Carter retaliated with a grain embargo. Markets closed I think for 3 days then went limit down for 3 days or so before leveling off. Bad deal that farmers paid the price for, for many years. The US became known as an unstable grain supplier. I'd say it took 10 years or more to turn that blemish around.
Took the Soviets 19 years before they figured out they couldn't win in Afghanistan. The US has been there over 10. Will we learn any quicker? I doubt it.
