Selling grain three years out to me would be as big of risk as anything, considering the current economic climate. You may be right, but it seems like a big roll of the dice to me. Do you have the imputs locked in also? But a market is made by both sides of the trade, not just one. So someone had to take the opposite side of that trade. Even if it is hedged, eventually some counter party has the exposure. So to each his own definition of risk because if no one took any risks, nothing would ever get planted.
