We are making a similar mistake with the US dollar. Cutting Iran off from the international banking clearing system made other nations stand up and take notice that if they do something we Americans don't like, we can make their money worthless.

Well they took notice to our bully tactics. Russia and the rest of the area nations have created a clearing system of their own so they can bypass USD transactions. That will be looked back on as distasteful, unwise and unfruitful as the embargo's were.
