Seat belt definitely helps in rough fields. It keeps you tucked into the seat and helps eliminate back pain from trying to keep yourself in the seat, either consciously or unconsciously. The seat belt is attached to the seat, it doesn't get loose or tight as the suspension moves. The shock on the seat works both directions unless it is bad.
