E.Central MN | The railroads have too much power because they know Congress in looking after the interests of the American economy can "force" railworkers back to work by threatening to allow the company to fire them. If you have a pension from working there a long time you probably aren't willing to give that up. The question long term becomes how few workers can the railroads get by with, if they can't hire new workers then they or the outside companies they will outsource the work to will eventually be forced to add incentives to get the jobs done to keep the gravy trains rolling. They can't outsource all the work to somewhere else in the world, and I doubt they could keep a schedule if they just made all the workers temporary week to week employees like some companies do in the south. I guess Buffets rail profits will just keep going up. | |
