Pvafarms has it right.......THIS IS NOT THE 50's anymore.


I suggest you look up "common-law" for your state. That's an eye opener for anyone.

If she is independent as you say do half and half rent or every other month. Rest of bills you can cover (I'm sure she will help out with though) except SOME of her offered help but don't ask or demand it.

Continue to date her as you weren't living together though.


My sister in law is the same way.....fiercely independent. He tried to pay for everything and when he was looking for a house for work, she refused to move in without being put on the mortgage even though she doesn't have money as she is a student. He ended up renting an apartment and within few month they broke up.

My parents got married and then moved in together.....lasted ten years and then divorced and sold family farm.

I was dating my wife for seven years, lived together for three and then got married. Three years married and she loves life in the country ....was a city kid.

Just have your wits about you.
