| I have a hitch forged Clevis. Chain bolted then around a worn out pickup tire. Chain maybe 8’ long. Other side of tire @10’ chain with a good hook. That goes on what’s being pulled out of mud. That ended my broken chains.
It’s often the jerk, bump...(whatever you call it). I have been sure the tire will rip apart. (Not yet). Of course if stuck, it’s slick where pulling from. IF I need to add chain to get to get on solid ground. Anything bulky on chain helps.
A old tarp, jacket, heck seed bags if you tie them to chain should help.
I saw a cable cut 6’ corn like a weed wacker. The longer the chain the more it concerns me.
Last spring my pulling tire rode in rock box all spring.
BTW log chains seem to break less violently then grade 70+ chains IMO. Not sure if that’s correct. But seeing a grade 80 chain break. Looked worse then any cheap chain. If not for DOT I wouldn’t own a grade 80 chain. | |
