I have seen where a guy threaded a 1/4 or 5/16 nylon rope through the chain. If the chain broke the two pieces will follow the the rope back to the attachment points, if the attachment point brreak then the rope trick won’t work. Placing a tire at the halfway point of the chain would absorb all of the force from a broken chain and a broken attachment point.
