I'm not in as arid of an area so take it for what it's worth. Our shallow sandy soils with 26" of rainfall the typical plans here are 30". Corn 16-20k DL/28-34k irr. Bns 100-120k/165k irr. Milo 30-45k DL. Cotton double corn rates.

I've been playing with dryland milo on 7.5". In double crop after wheat I was getting 50-90 bpa yields with a 75,000 pop. This year I planted late, but full season milo at 90,000. We have went from our 8th wettest July and 10th driest Aug. However no rain in Aug here. My Milo has held in there, canopied rapidly. We'll see what comes of it. I've been thinking about the need for corn and beans to get planted on 20". We aren't canopying until v10 and takes 30" bns 12 weeks even under irrigation to canopy.
