I didn't figure out the exact population............but betting if you are on 20" rows and you space your plants 20" apart you'd be at about 10k population. That'd put each plant 20" on average from every other plant out there growing. Probably an ideal situation yield wise. Lots of strikes against it with regards to machinery and weed rescue treatments. But probably not a bad plan either if you're into that kind of thing. LOL
Close, 8k is population I’m shooting for now and might consider 12k at the highest. I thought about that as well, but then that defeats the logic behind planting skip row. I don’t know about skip row itself but wider spacing would be kind of a middle ground. Maybe 20s would be better but at 8k I just see trading row width and distance between plants so I see it being the same thing. And in my scenario wouldn’t more rows make it harder to lower population without changing sprockets? I will probably plant some 20” if I can find someone near by to plant it but I don’t know until I can find someone with experience or try it for myself. |
