Plainview, Tx | On dryland corn, milo, or cotton, in low rainfall areas, has anyone seen much difference in row spacing? I just noticed around here a lot of the dryland guys were on wider spacing as (40in) and was just wondering if there were advantages to the wide rows vs 30in rows for dryland. I know the logic is to go narrow to shade better but looks like when you only plant 12k on corn or 25k on cotton and milo there isn’t much to shade, and if you have good residue shouldn’t that take care of most of the shading issues? Just curious since we have only ever done 30in rows.
Main thing I see with wide rows I like is cheaper equipment, more down pressure per row on same tool bar, plus can probably eliminate need for duals. Just curious on everyone’s experience.
