Humans want more than anything to believe that the future isn’t random and that it is predictable. If you are a good enough salesman you can make a lot of money convincing willing believers that you are able to do it. Wrap your system in mysticism and tell those that fail they just didn’t work hard enough or missed the obvious clues. “You’ll do better next time, you just need to take this course or buy this book”. It’s been going on for 1000’s of years and it will go on for a 1000 more. Randomness scares the crap out of us, we want to believe there is control. PT Barnum knew. |
