$70,000 huh?  Maybe in your backyard, but have a look at what it will get you here.  First place just sold a few weeks ago in our neighborhood. 1100 sq.foot house with an 8 acre lot, a handful of small old outbuildings and two small grain bins.  The house hadn't been lived in for at least ten years, first thing the new owner had to do was trench new water lines to it.  $160,000.

The second with the old trailer had 30 acres with none tillable, auction price $180,000.

Why can they get that much?  Well, if you want to rent a starter place in local small town here (10k people), a 50 year old single story 2 bedroom 1 bath is going to be around $600/month.
