Subject: RE: Is "listening" to your equipment a lost art?

Manitoba, Canada
I grew up being taught to listen to equipment. Now I keep the windows closed. I can still hear the equipment, it’s just quieter. I have even begun using a noise cancelling headset in a lot of equipment also. It is amazingly relaxing and I find I still can hear the machine run because my ears are not overtaxed from excessive noise.

Looking back I was trained to subject myself to noise and dust so that I could take better care of the equipment. What I realize now is that I was actually abusing the most important equipment I will ever have, my own body. Unnecessary exposure to dust and noise is not worth it.
