I grew up on open station tractors too, you can hear a lot. Once the cabs came I never used the radio, still could hear the driveline. I disagree about cracking Windows though, the cab climate control systems were designed to remove small amounts of dust, and was designed to work with the cab sealed. Open up windows and letting the system suck the dirty air in continuously does not do the components any good.
