So he was making around 64k a year? I know a lot of happy people making between 50 and 65k that work 8 hour days and at 5 on Friday they don't think about work again till Monday morning at 8. Your not going to compete with companies. Can go drive forklift for local factory for 19 an hour work 5 long days a week and get a little insurance ect... I'd stop working them on Saturdays and Sundays unless it's really busy or they opt to work

I'd recommend getting an 8th grader to help you on weekends go pick him up in mornings and drop him off at night. Pay him good so he keeps coming back. Won't be worth his pay till mid freshman year but so what. When he gets to be a junior get another 8th grader to follow him around.

Maybe really look at your operation and downsize to a manageable size not paying someone 64k could really give you some options on things that don't really need to be done
