Things are so much different than the 80s were here. Way more outside money and large family operations have very deep pockets. Hate to break it to you but people are just not losing money. 50 bu beans at 9.50 will still pay a lot of bills in the fringe areas.
Watched a 1/4 section of brush sell for 2500 and acre last summer. 3 guys bidding, 2 of them were bidding only for recreational purposes. Even people outside of ag are fascinated by owning land so until that mindset leaves us I think there's a strong floor not far under this market with interest rates where they are. i hate to break it to You, but damn few here are making money. North Iowa. 55bushels stopped a lot of guys bean yields here this year. With our land costs, that will clip your nuts pretty short. |
