Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska | I've heard of livestock just being shot on the farm just for that reason. The freight was more than they received. And no one else had any money to buy them. And if you left extra livestock live they were eating up feed you didn't have so they shot them to prevent the livestock from suffering death by starvation.
