Subject: Hay press

Pittsburg, Kansas
I don't know when the first horse powered stationary presses came along. Someone on here probably knows. But stationary balers driven by one or two horses traveling in a circle were popular in this area. Stacks in a wet year had bad spoilage problems this far south so balers were adopted I think more quickly than more northern area.

Looks like late 1800's the portable ones like I knew about became popular. I think the one I poked wires for built 16x18 wire hand tied bales. Wish I knew the brand of it, but I was only about 6 atmthe time I helped put up some hay with one. I poked the wires through the wood blocks and the guy on the other side tied them.
