I'm not defending the elevator but the workers there have family lives also. My wife always tell me this world doesn't revolve around farmers only when I complain about something that doesn't go my way with the general public.

I've been on both sides of this so that gives me the right the grumble too.

You are right they do have families, but this is also their "go time". Should snow plow truck drivers only work 8 hours a day, five days a week too?

If the weather is good they should be open then if during the week it is bad they can go home at 3 or something if they don't want the hours.

The faster they get all of us done the faster their lives and ours can return back to normal.

I have two points to bring up:

1. It is their "go time". For most farms, the "go time" runs for a week or two possibly followed by a short slack time before the next thing starts. For an elevator, their "go time" starts when the very first farmer in the area delivers the first load and continues until the last straggler brings in his last load. That can be six or eight weeks. By the time everyone one is done, the early farmers have moved on to their next "go time". Can you imagine the complaining that would go on if they were open all day Sunday for the first 3 weeks of corn harvest and not the rest? Or only the last 3 weeks? Using your reasoning, they would end up working 7 days a week all summer. Except when winter ends everything for the season.

2. Sending people home early on rainy days. That sounds good in theory but doesn't seem to ever happen. There are always trucks or rail cars to load out, equipment to fix, somebody wanting to bring in a few loads out of a bin or empty his trucks, etc.
