E.Central MN | There's two different issues. First is the issue discussed in the original post: if the corn is planted in warm soil and is immediately followed by cold rain/snow the next day then there can be reduced stands due to poor germination. A reduced stand will usually reduce the yield. If the corn was planted into warm soil several days before the cold weather it might not have a germination problem. The second issue is what ever effect there is on corn that takes a very long time to emerge. Here in the northern growing area its not that rare for corn to take several weeks to emerge with very little germination problem. | |
