Subject: Re: Question for Coup-farm bill, land prices

Holly Grove Arkansas
Going from memory, been a few days since I looked at the text of the bill...someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
$3.70 is not really $3.70. U can update you yield but only get 90% of the five year average as the new payment yield and the payment is made on 85% of base acres.
Assuming, for simplicity, that u made your 5 year average yield and planted you base acres, corn was $3, the net would be more like $3.50-$3.55 than $3.70.
Even then nothing is guarentee. Any rice farmer who lived through CCP and Johanns can tell u a belligerent Ag Secretary can make the market year price used to calculate the payment anything he wants, even well above the highest available during the year.
