| So, the only reason for cow numbers being where they are is price? The last few years (10?) have, even according to your chart, been quite profitable relative to the year prior to that. Now, I certainly question the data your chart was based on - I went into that in a post in the thread above. Talk about not passing the "smell test"!
But, again, price is the only determining factor in cow numbers? Have you paid any attention to weather in cow country recently? It's a little more complicated than how you see it, IMHO. In addition to weather problems, you also have a thirty year bull in corn. This provides alternatives to farmers/ranchers, since wheat did ok too. And, there's this little consideration of producers' attitudes that take time to change. That might take less time if the grain bull markets are finally over.
