Napanee, Ontario
Remember who cattle fax is - they are just an information collecting agency. they have no stake, or authority, to obtain or force producers to provide their financial information. Do you think maybe it's possible, like Q500 said, that the packers arn't really disclosing all their information to them? given that they already barely disclose any market information as it is.

here's some ACTUAL numbers:

Annual prices in 2004 averaged $4.07/pound
Annual prices in 2005 averaged $4.09/pound
Annual prices in 2006 averaged $3.97/pound
Annual prices in 2007 averaged $4.16/pound
Annual prices in 2008 averaged $4.33/pound
Annual prices in 2009 averaged $4.26/pound
Annual prices in 2010 averaged $4.40/pound
Annual prices in 2011 averaged $4.83/pound
Annual prices in 2012 averaged $5.02/pound

For most of that above reference period, i remember selling our calves for close to $1.00 - 1.20. And Fats were worth even less - about 90 cent to a buck.

So i'm expected to believe that between 1 dollar and 4 dollars, the grocery stores made all the money, and the poor packers just didn't have any pricing power to do anything but eat losses every year?

Riiiiiiiight.

Remember again that these outfits are private save Tyson, with as little public disclosures as possible.
