East Central South Dakota
+1 The animal protien debate totally intriges me. I now believe the lack of transparency and packer vertical intregation discourages expansion. Beef has to stay at these prices or more for at least 5 years to encourage any expansion. My family ran cattle forever----------for those guys on here who haven't been on the wrong end of a cow---- 300 cows is a crap load of work----a he$$va lot more than $45,000 worth of headaches and work with 300 cows. Only really rough land doesn't have other opportunity costs is in cattle, and we need (at least) five years worth of todays prices to change that trend.
