Subject: RE:Well, if the packers haven't who has?

Death comes to us all. Life's but a walking shadow
Look at the for a few seconds and tell me that you actually believe that the four companies who occupy the choke point in the beef business between the producers and the retail market made little to no profit all those years? If true then these companies are truly some of the worse run companies in world if not America. A few years ago when a fat steer sold for about $750 I went to the supermarket, one of the big regional brands and recorded the prices of the various cuts of meat, including some varietal cuts etc. I then applied these prices to the standard cutout formula and it calculated that the retail value of the $700 steer was worth not quite $3000. This was a 400% markup. Now I know that processing and transportation costs money but not that much. Somebody was making some money here.
This gets right back to the issue of transparency.
