Agree completely on the need for transparency. Also agree that the reason why expansion has not taken place is partly due to discouragement in cow/calf operations. For so many years, there just was no profit in it. Recently, it has gotten much better, but still not what you might call lucrative, by any means. But - *if* grain farming goes the way it did the last three times we turned the cycle down, there could be quite a few guys thinking it might be ok to become cowboys again.

But, basically, White Shadow, I agree with what you say. I've posted links previously on this forum showing the lack of competitive bidding in the beef industry - along with the oversupply of feedlots, etc. I recently posted a chart that, IMHO, showed how this has probably caused the sharp run-up we have currently seen. (There was no interest whatsoever in discussing that chart) IMHO, it looked like a clear case of how the market no longer worked as it should.
