Like I said somewhere before on this board, if I was to start over, was young and ambitious and the rose was still in bloom, I would get sand. I know people who love their sand. I also know people (check out Daryl Woldt in Hoard's Dairyman), SCC 160-180,88+ tank average, uses the same damn paper-industry byproduct that we use that is very inexpensive. He HAD sand, even had the latest and greatest sand-handling equipment. Spend some $300k on it. Tore it all out. Shocked everyone in the neighborhood. Daryl comes from a century farm, admittedly born with a silver spoon in his mouth, but he has grown his business exponentially on his own and is not afraid to try stuff and if it doesn't work, he changes things. So sand isn't for everyone, and you can get low SCC without sand.
