Depends a lot on management.

If they're grazing, probably will average less, but most grazers supplement with some grain, so you get more if you do that. If they're fed a well balanced total mixed ration, I would say it's realistic to expect Holsteins to average in the 80's and Jerseys to average in the 50's. Also depends on what milk and feed prices are, when grain is cheap, there is a strong tendency to feed more and get more milk.

Every cow starts out lower, peaks about 3 months later and then tapers off from there, so a herd average production is closely related to how efficiently the cows are bred back. If they are bred back on time, more cows spend more of their time near peak lactation and less on the tail end.

So there's lots of good answers.
