How does it not take equipment to handle sand?? I cant afford to buy the sand and not recycle it. Sand around here is 30 dollars a ton delivered.. If i bedded my 225 cows on sand it would cost 120000 a year just for the sand. Then I have to figure out how to get it out of my pit. and rebuild my pumps every year.

I agree that sand is the gold standard of bedding, but I am just not willing at this time to spend 100k plus on upgrades to handle sand.

225 x 5lb per more per cow/day..(and it going to be closer to 10) at 15$ milk is $61,593.75 a year.. Pretty good return.. Figure 19 per 100 its $78,018.75.. subtract what you spend now for bedding could pay for it in 1 or 2 years at the most..

Sand pays..
