| Servant? About my sixth great grandfather Handy was born in 1646 in England. He came to America circa 1660 as an indentured servant. Upon his release, he was given a few acres and some livestock. Thru hard work, and good marriage, he became a sea captain, as well as six of his sons, while another son built Pemberton Hall near Handy’s Landing, which is near Salisbury, Maryland. Between sea captains settling all over early America, and the proclivity of having 10-13 kids, we have Handy’s in at least 35 states. | |
