You are talking about the pump that looks like this right?

Are you saying that serves as a charge pump for the hydraulic pump in addition to serving as a lube pump for the transmission? 



Transmission pump supplies the pressure to operate the traction and PTO clutches and in a quad range equipped tractor to operate the 2 speed. It also supplies oil for transmission lubrication and then anything left over charges the main hydraulic pump.
