se Neb | My direct line of ancestors with my surname came from the Upgant-Schott, Ostfriesland in 1900 and settled in Illinois for a few years before moving to South Dakota in the 1910. According to the ship manifest of the Gross Frederick, he had $100 on him. His brother-in-law was his sponsor in Illinois. He did NOT go through Ellis Island. The main building had burned down in 1898 and the new one didn't open until October 1900. He arrived in September 1900 and so had to go through the Barge Office. His future wife came in the 1890's as a young girl, also from Ostfriesland. My maternal grandfather's father came from Dinxperlo, Nederlands. My maternal grandmother's father came from Prussia early enough that some of the family were in the Wisconsin Regiment during the Civil War. | |
