Could not have been $.75 per bale, there were no balers. May have been per stack or something?


Here is a picture of a Petaluma 5 wire hay press.

The early models from the 1800’s had a large flywheel on side that had a rope was spun around it. A team of horses would pull on this rope and press the hay, then the flywheel was rewound by hand, hay was loaded in by hand until there was enough hay to make a bale. The later Petaluma presses were belt driven off a tractor.
