Could not have been $.75 per bale, there were no balers. May have been per stack or something?


My great-great-great uncle did custom baling in the 1890's with a stationary baler driven by a horse sweep. The only reason they made bales was that they were all sold to be hauled on the railroad so it took up less room. I seriously doubt it was 75 cents each in 1890, when guys were not even earning a dollar a day yet.

It was a big day when he got a tractor.....
