Subject: Cold Temps / cold "1st drink"... planting corn

There was a Pioneer Agronomist on the radio this morning discussing the already planted corn. He stated its probably ok because at the time it was planted...the soils and "1st drink " of water was warmer.............

Now..........does that mean after this very cold spell..... does that mean corn planting should be delayed to let the soil and that "1st drink" of water by the just planted corn seed get to a higher level?

He made it sound as the 1st drink of warmer ......or colder water into the seed is at least as important as ground temps......to avoid shocking the seedlings. He also stated there has been alot of improvement in cold germ over the past years. That used to be a stat seed co's would throw out, dont see it much anymore.

strategy?
