Hello Rodney,

it is well established that heavy application of slurry can result in preferential flow of slurry into tile if surface connected macropores (e.g., night crawler burrows) are present.

50k gallons/a is almost 2" and seems like a very excessive application rate... and could possibly result in very high loads of P in drainage water... maybe even 22x... seems like the most logical solution is to not apply so much at one time rather than add capture technology to the end of the tile lines.

regarding the production practices at the WIU Organic research farm, I am far from satisfied and spend a lot of time thinking about ways we can improve our practices... we grew our first 200+ bushel corn this year (on 50 lbs of added N.)... who knows what we could accomplish if I would just blanket the farm with colloidal rock P :)

I think I am more likely to try some targeted applications of fish.
